Currently, we are experiencing an epidemic of boys who are “falling through the cracks” in their family, school, and community support systems. It is becoming clear that regardless of how much educators and other professional care givers have worked to reach and help these boys, many of them continue to stagger on the edge of deep academic, social, and emotional trouble. What has caused this terrible trend in boys and what fresh ideas are out there that could help improve our effectiveness in dealing with it?

During the past decade, new research has brought fresh perspectives on issues related to boys and how we can reach and help them more effectively. During this time, there has been a surge of growth in the number of new books and programs that have been specifically developed to address issues related to boys. This swell of information on boys seems to have been spurred on in part as a response to the recent national attention on programs for girl bullying and relational aggression. It is now time to give boys their due, by exploring gender specific ways to better reach and help them, too.

Many of today’s boys are in need of focused, supportive interventions that are designed to target them in their own gender-affected worlds. This one-day seminar will provide you with updated insights, strategies and approaches specifically related to these boys and their issues.

You will learn gender-based insights and strategies for working with boys on issues such as:
  • Academic Failure
  • Detachment and Isolation
  • Disruptive Behavior
  • Bullying
  • Violence & Gangs
  • Detachment and Isolation
  • Substance Abuse
  • Depression and Suicide
